Advanced colorectal health services
Our physicians use proven screening methods, such as colonoscopies, to diagnose and treat colorectal cancer.
Symptoms of colon cancer
Colorectal cancer usually begins as small polyps, or growths, in the colon or rectum. Although most of these polyps are noncancerous, some may turn into cancerous growths.
The following symptoms may be indicative of colon cancer:
- Abdominal cramps
- Consistent urge to move your bowels
- Dark or narrow stools
- Rectal bleeding
- Significant change in bowel movements (lasting two weeks or more)
Colonoscopy screenings
A colonoscopy is the most commonly used colon cancer screening service. During the procedure, our doctor inserts a long, thin tube with a camera to gain a clear view of the rectum and large intestine. This allows us to check for any abnormalities.
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends scheduling a screening colonoscopy starting at age 45. If you have a family member who has been diagnosed with colorectal cancer, talk to your doctor about when and how often you should be screened.
Colorectal cancer surgery
If surgical care is needed, our highly skilled surgeons use the latest in minimally invasive procedures to remove colorectal cancers and reconnect intestinal tissue. Minimally invasive procedures and robot-assisted surgery offer you many potential benefits, including reduced scarring, shorter hospital stay and faster recovery time.
