About New England Spine & Neurosurgery
Advanced neurosurgical care
Our expert neurosurgical team provides advanced surgical care for a wide range of neurological conditions. Although our neurosurgeons offer examinations in our Portsmouth office and in Rochester, most surgical procedures take place at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
In addition to providing advanced surgical care, we believe in prioritizing the needs of our patients by creating individualized treatment plants. The goal of New England Spine and Neurosurgery is to answer all questions concerning diagnosis, surgical treatment and recovery.
Brain condition treatment
Common conditions treated include:
- Benign brain tumors/meningioma
- Chiari type I malformation
- Colloid cysts of the 3rd ventricle
- Hydrocephalus
- Malignant brain tumors
- Metastatic brain tumors
- Traumatic brain injury/head trauma
Our neurosurgical team uses advanced surgical methods to treats brain conditions, including:
Image guided cranial surgery
Image guided cranial surgery uses advanced technology that provides surgeons with detailed images of the surgical site on a computer screen. These enhanced images allow for increased accuracy and precision during brain surgery.
Spine condition treatment
Our neurosurgeons using a variety of surgical methods to treat spine conditions, including:
- Image guided spinal surgery
- Image guided spinal surgery uses advanced technology that provides surgeons with detailed images of the spinal anatomy on a computer screen. These enhanced images allow for increased accuracy and precision during placement of hardware during spinal fusion procedures in the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine.
- Arthroplasty (disc replacement)
- Spinal and spinal cord tumor removal
- Surgery for traumatic injuries
Common spine conditions treated include:
- Degenerative Disc disease
- Herniated disc
- Neck and back pain
- Spine infection
- Spinal Stenosis
- Traumatic injuries
- Sacroiliac joint fusions for chronic SI joint pain
- Spinal cord stimulator for chronic pain
- Peripheral nerve such as carpal tunnel and ulnar nerve compression
Multidisciplinary spine care
Our neurosurgery practice uses a virtual spine center to coordinate patient care and maximize treatment results. The virtual spine center allows our physicians to document patient progress as well as communicate with other specialists, including:
- Interventional radiologists
- Pain management anesthesiologists
- Physiatrists
- Physical therapists
- Primary care physicians
- Rehabilitation physiatrists
- Surgeons
This collaboration provides patients access to a wide range of specialists in Manchester and surrounding areas. It also helps our doctors ensure that all patients receive care from the appropriate specialists and provides a continuity of care across providers.
General care plan
Our neurosurgeons understand that some conditions can be treated without surgery, which is why our general care plan can include:
- Medical therapy, using muscle relaxants or anti-inflammatories
- Pain therapy, including spinal blocks, trigger point injections, botox injections or steroid injections
- Physical therapy to loosen painful or strained muscles
- Surgical consideration (when other treatment modalities have failed)
